Levels of Artists: A Professional Perspective

In the music industry, there are artists at all stages of their careers, and I work with many of them. Some are seasoned professionals, some are intermediate, some are at a foundational level, and others are complete newcomers.

What I often observe is that the pros tend to be more grounded and humble, while the newcomers sometimes project an inflated sense of their status after creating a song or shooting a music video. It’s common to hear phrases like, “My management team will handle that,” but the truth is, if a management team truly has things under control, there’s no need to say it,,,, professionals recognise professionalism without needing to state it. I don’t say this negatively, but simply to highlight the difference in mentality that tends to come with experience.

For those just starting out in the industry, the best step you can take is to educate yourself on the business side of music. If your goal is simply to create music for fun, then by all means, continue as you are. However, if you’re serious about building a career, I strongly recommend diving into several music business books. I’m not suggesting just reading one,,,, read a few. Remember, books are written by individuals with substantial experience and expertise, so in essence, you’re gaining access to their knowledge and perspective.

When you begin reading these books, it’s important to understand that you may not grasp everything right away. You might walk away with only 10-20% of the information, but even that is more knowledge than you had before. The key is to build on that foundation over time.

Additionally, keep the knowledge you gain to yourself unless you’re exchanging insights with people actively working in the industry. Avoid trying to come across as too clever or overconfident. One of the most valuable skills you can develop is the ability to listen,,,, pay attention to what others know, absorb their opinions, and then share your thoughts. This is how you level up like a true professional.

Also, don’t take everything at face value. Do your own research and take the time to make informed decisions. In this digital age, all the information you need is at your fingertips. Use the internet wisely and make it work for you.

One More Thing………

I post a wide range of content,,,,😜 some of it is insightful, some lighthearted, and some playful 👊🏽but all of it is intentional. This approach is a key component of my marketing strategy, allowing me to connect with diverse target audiences. While I enjoy incorporating humor and a bit of cheekiness into my content, it’s important to understand that this is all part of a well-thought-out plan. I am fully aware of how to engage with different demographics, and every post serves a purpose. My content may vary in tone, but there’s always a clear objective behind it. Effective marketing requires adaptability, and knowing how to connect with various audiences while maintaining authenticity is crucial. Rest assured, none of this is by chance,,,, it’s all part of a carefully constructed strategy to foster meaningful engagement.
